Blades now outgrow every road rule
Wind turbine blades are the purest ODC there is. India's largest blade in 2018 was about 63 m; today blades of 78.6 m and 80.5 m are made at Mundra, and a 91.2 m onshore blade is being readied there — roughly five times the 18.75 m length limit. Each one travels hundreds of kilometres to sites in Kutch, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
How blades move
- Extendable or telescopic trailers with rear-steer dollies to manage the swept path on curves.
- Swept-path route surveys — removing and restoring signboards, dividers and street furniture is common.
- Escorts and traffic management, often night movement on busy stretches.
- Root-end fixture bolted to the trailer, with a tip support cradle and soft padding at contact points.

Wind blade inspection checklist
- Blade serial number and pre-transport surface condition (leading edge, trailing edge, tip) — photographed all round.
- Root fixture bolts torqued; tip cradle padding intact; no point loads on the shell.
- Permit, route survey and escort plan attached; eWay Bill vehicle type set to ODC.
- Rear overhang markings and lights; zebra markings and flags on extremities.
- Delivery condition photos at site before the blade is lifted to the hub.
How ODC OK PLEASE helps
Length alone trips the ODC softlock the moment the packing list is read, and the eWay Bill ODC flag is cross-checked independently. AI vision gives the maker a quick first pass on surface condition photos, so a dispute about a chipped leading edge has a time-stamped baseline. See also the ODC rules and the ODC checker.
